Hello glorious readers!

If you’ve been following me for a year or more, you’ll know I struggle with the holiday season. It’s not my favorite time of year and it never has been. I was raised with only cursory holiday celebrations. But every family “holiday” devolved into screaming, tears and a lot of drama when impossible expectations could never be met. When I was married (for 20/ish years) the holidays were more enjoyable as they were focused on my husband’s nieces and nephews. And up until a few years ago, I had adopted a new holiday tradition: spending them with my best friend. But she killed herself 2 years ago and the holiday season, once again, lost its shine. I used to label myself as a “bah humbug” but I no longer connect with that either. Now, I like to think of Christmas day as a “day off”!

And while I was invited to spend Christmas both with a good friend here in Portugal and also with my partner and their family in Spain, I’ve decided to spend it alone. Though with my loving dog, I’m never truly alone.

The other thing/s I wanted to mention is that I’ve been reading some amazing books lately! I listen to audiobooks on Spotify or Libby (the library app). I finally canceled my audible, as the price keeps increasing and I no longer use it.

My recent most favorite is a memoir by Kathleen Hanna, the lead singer of Bikini Kill called Rebel Girl, My Life as a Feminist Punk. IMO, it should be required reading for women. And then, because apparently I needed more fem, I found a memoir by Hugh Hefner’s last wife: Crystal Hefner, which I am finding very interesting as well. I guess I’m on a bit of a Girl Power kick!

In fiction, I’m obsessed with The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown.
